Don Juan asked me to get the figurine down. Then he handed me a leather pouch he had made out of an old suede jacket I had brought for him some time before.	Дон Хуан велел снять фигурку и дал мне сумку из старой замшевой куртки, которую я ему когда-то привез.
The pouch looked like the one he owned himself. The only difference was that his was made of soft, brown leather.	Выглядела сумка точно так же, как его собственная, разве что та была из мягкой коричневой кожи.

I followed him. He walked around the house, making a complete clockwise circle.	Он обошел вокруг дома, сделав полный оборот по часовой стрелке.
He stopped at the porch and circled the house again, this time going counterclockwise and again returning to the porch.	Постояв на веранде, он еще раз обошел вокруг дома, на этот раз против часовой стрелки, и опять вернулся на веранду.
He stood motionless for some time, and then sat down.	Какое-то время он стоял неподвижно, потом сел.
I was conditioned to believe that everything he did had some meaning.	Я уже привык считать, что во всем, что бы он ни делал, есть какой-то особый смысл.

I asked him what he was looking for.	Я спросил, что он ищет.
He said he had forgotten where he had placed the shoot I was to replant.	Оказалось - саженец, который я должен пересадить.
We walked around the house once more before he remembered where it was.	Мы еще раз обошли вокруг дома, пока он наконец вспомнил.
