Pouring out like ants."	Ползучие, как муравьи.
"I should be able to find out without going down all the way." Hendricks locked his gun, gripping it in one hand, the transmitter in the other.	- Ладно, - сказал Хендрикс и, взяв в одну руку карабин, а в другую - передатчик, поднялся.
"Well, wish me luck."	- Пожелайте мне удачи.
Klaus put out his hand.	Клаус протянул руку.
"Don't go down until you're sure.	- Не спускайся в бункер, пока не будешь уверен.
Talk to them from up here.	Говори с ними сверху.
Make them show themselves."	Пусть они покажутся.
Hendricks stood up.	- Хорошо.
He stepped down the side of the rise.	Пошел.
A moment later he was walking slowly toward the pile of bricks and debris beside the dead tree stump.	Минутой позднее он уже подходил к куче кирпичей, что громоздились возле пня.
Toward the entrance of the forward command bunker.	Он шел очень медленно и осторожно.
Nothing stirred.	Было тихо.
He raised the transmitter, clicking it on.	Майор поднял передатчик, включил его.
"Scott?	- Скотт?
Can you hear me?"	Ты слышишь меня?
Silence.	Тишина.
"Scott!	- Скотт?
This is Hendricks.	Это я, Хендрикс.
Can you hear me?	Ты слышишь меня?
I'm standing outside the bunker.	Я около бункера.
You should be able to see me in the view sight."	Вы можете видеть меня в смотровую щель.
He listened, the transmitter gripped tightly.	Он слушал, крепко сжимая передатчик.
No sound. Only static.	Ни звука.
He walked forward.	Потом двинулся дальше.
A claw burrowed out of the ash and raced toward him. It halted a few feet away and then slunk off.	Из пепла вылез "коготь" и устремился к нему, затем куда-то исчез.
A second claw appeared, one of the big ones with feelers.	Но появился второй, побольше, тот, что с выпуклыми линзами.
It moved toward him, studied him intently, and then fell in behind him, dogging respectfully after him, a few paces away.	Он подобрался почти вплотную, внимательно рассмотрел Хендрикса и после этого, чуть приотстав, начал почтительно сопровождать его.
A moment later a second big claw joined it.	Вскоре к нему присоединился еще один.
