Gripping it hard to keep it from unfurling, Tolland clambered over to Rachel, who was propped on her side.	Крепко обхватив воздушный шар, чтобы не дать ему развернуться, Толланд подобрался к Рейчел, неловко, боком сидевшей на льду.

Tolland handed Rachel the folded pad of fabric and then used his free hands to slip the balloon's payload clasp through one of the carabiners on his harness.	Протянул сложенный баллон, потом пристегнул грузовое крепление к своему поясу.
Then, rolling on his side, he slipped the clasp through one of Rachel's carabiners as well.	Перекатившись на бок, другое крепление застегнул на поясе Рейчел.
Tolland and Rachel were now one.	Теперь они составляли единое целое.

Tolland knew they were almost out of time.	Толланд понимал, что времени в обрез.
Tolland grabbed the folded balloon from Rachel.	Он выхватил из рук Рейчел сложенный баллон.
The fabric was as light as tissue paper-and virtually indestructible.	Ткань была легкой, словно папиросная бумага, и в то же время очень прочной.
Here goes nothing.	Наступил критический момент.
"Hold on!"	- Держись!
"Mike?" Rachel said.	- Майк? - удивилась Рейчел.
"What-"	- Что...
Tolland hurled the pad of wadded Mylar into the air over their heads.	Толланд подкинул сложенный воздушный шар в воздух.
The howling wind snatched it up and spread it out like a parachute in a hurricane.	Порывистый ветер подхватил его и моментально расправил, словно парашют.
The sheath filled instantly, billowing open with a loud snap.	Уже через пару секунд их "парус" надулся, раскрывшись с громким треском.
Tolland felt a wrenching yank on his harness, and he knew in an instant he had grossly underestimated the power of the katabatic wind.	Толланд почувствовал, как дернулся его ремень, и тут же понял, что недооценил силу ветра.
Within a fraction of a second, he and Rachel were half airborne, being dragged down the glacier.	Уже через долю секунды они с Рейчел оказались почти поднятыми на воздух. Их с силой тащило вниз по леднику.
