"She has lived with the wolves," said a third Indian.	-- Она жила среди волков, -- сказал третий индеец.
"So it would seem, Three Eagles," Grey Beaver answered, laying his hand on the cub; "and this be the sign of it."	-- Ты прав. Три Орла, -- усмехнулся Серый Бобр, дотронувшись до волчонка, -- и вот доказательство твоей правоты.
The cub snarled a little at the touch of the hand, and the hand flew back to administer a clout.	Почувствовав прикосновение человеческой руки, волчонок глухо зарычал, и рука отдернулась назад, готовясь ударить его.
Whereupon the cub covered its fangs, and sank down submissively, while the hand, returning, rubbed behind his ears, and up and down his back.	Тогда он спрятал клыки и покорно приник к земле, а рука снова опустилась и стала Почесывать у него за ухом и гладить его по спине.
"This be the sign of it," Grey Beaver went on. "It is plain that his mother is Kiche.	-- Вот доказательство твоей правоты, -- повторил Серый Бобр. -- Кичи -- его мать.

The cub, who had thus received a name in the world, lay and watched.	Волчонок, получивший имя, лежал и слушал.
For a time the man-animals continued to make their mouth-noises.	Люди продолжали говорить.
Then Grey Beaver took a knife from a sheath that hung around his neck, and went into the thicket and cut a stick.	Потом Серый Бобр вынул нож из ножен, висевших у него на шее, подошел к кусту и вырезал палку.

He notched the stick at each end and in the notches fastened strings of raw-hide.	Серый Бобр сделал на обоих концах палки по зарубке и обвязал вокруг них ремни из сыромятной кожи.
One string he tied around the throat of Kiche. Then he led her to a small pine, around which he tied the other string.	Один ремень он надел на шею Кичи, подвел ее к невысокой сосне и привязал второй ремень к дереву.
White Fang followed and lay down beside her.	Белый Клык пошел за матерью и улегся рядом с ней.
Salmon Tongue's hand reached out to him and rolled him over on his back.	Язык Лосося протянул к волчонку руку и опрокинул его на спину.
Kiche looked on anxiously.	Кичи испуганно смотрела на них.
