"See anything?" Klaus said.	- Видно что-нибудь? - спросил Клаус.
"No."	- Нет.
"Can you make out our bunkers?"	- А наши бункера?
"Which way?"	- Я не знаю куда смотреть.
"Here." Klaus took the glasses and adjusted them.	- Подожди, - Клаус взял бинокль.
"I know where to look." He looked a long time, silently.	Он долго и молча смотрел.
Tasso came to the top of the tunnel and stepped up onto the ground.	Из люка вылезла Тассо.
"Anything?"	- Ну что?
"No."	- Ничего.
Klaus passed the glasses back to Hendricks.	- Клаус вернул бинокль Хендриксу.
"They're out of sight.	- Их не видно.
Come on.	Идем.
Let's not stay here."	Не будем задерживаться.
The three of them made their way down the side of the ridge, sliding in the soft ash.	Они начали спускаться с холма, скользя по мягкому пеплу.
Across a flat rock a lizard scuttled.	На плоском камне мелькнула ящерица.
They stopped instantly, rigid.	Они остановились.
"What was it?" Klaus muttered.	- Что это было? - прошептал Клаус.

The lizard ran on, hurrying through the ash. It was exactly the same color as the ash.	Животное быстро бежало по пеплу, совершенно неразличимое на сером фоне.

They reached the bottom of the ridge and stopped, standing close together, looking around them.	Они достигли подножия холма и остановились, прижавшись друг к другу.

Tasso walked behind, her pistol held alertly.	Тассо шла последней, держа наготове пистолет.
"Major, I've been meaning to ask you something," Klaus said.	- Майор, хочу спросить тебя, - начал Клаус.
