"Are you looking for someone (ты кого-то ищешь; to look for — искать)?" she asked, as indifferently as if the invasion of her chamber by an armed stranger were the most common thing imaginable (так безразлично, словно вторжение в ее спальню вооруженного незнакомца было самым обычным делом, которое можно вообразить; indifferently — одинаково; спокойно, безразлично; chamber — комната; спальня; common — общий; обычный; to imagine — воображать).

Presently she spoke, but the tongue was unfamiliar to him, and he shook his head. She yawned again, stretched lithely and, without any show of fear or surprise, shifted to a language he did understand, a dialect of Yuetshi which sounded strangely archaic.

"Who are you?" he demanded.

"I am Yateli (я Ятели)," she answered languidly (ответила она вяло/медлительно). "I must have feasted late last night (наверное, я пировала допоздна вчера вечером), I am so sleepy now (/поэтому/ я такая сонная сейчас). Who are you (/а/ ты кто)?"

"I am Conan, a hetman among the kozaks (я Конан, гетман /среди/ козаков)," he answered (ответил он), watching her narrowly (пристально следя за ней; narrowly — тесно; пристально). He believed her attitude to be a pose (он считал ее отношение /к происходящему/ притворством; pose — поза; притворство) and expected her to try to escape from the chamber or rouse the house (и ожидал, что она попытается сбежать из комнаты или разбудить дом; to rouse — поднимать; будить). But, though a velvet rope that might be a signal cord hung near her (но хотя бархатная веревка, которая могла быть сигнальным шнуром, висела возле нее; to hang — висеть), she did not reach for it (она не потянулась к ней).

"Conan," she repeated drowsily (повторила она сонно). "You are not a Dagonian (ты не дагониец). I suppose you are a mercenary (я полагаю, ты наемник). Have you cut the heads off many Yuetshi (ты срубил головы многим юэтшийцам; to cut off — отрубить, отсечь)?"
