Strapped on either breast were human skulls (на каждой стороне груди ремнями были закреплены человеческие черепа; to strap — связывать, скреплять ремнями) and depending from these a number of dried human hands (и с них же свисало множество высохших человеческих кистей рук).

His reference to the great games (его упоминание о больших играх; reference — ссылка, упоминание) of which I had heard so much while among the Tharks (о которых я слышал так много, пока был у тарков) convinced me that I had but jumped from purgatory into gehenna (убедило меня в том, что я попал из огня да в полымя: «из чистилища в ад»; purgatory — чистилище; gehenna — геенна, ад).

After a few more words with the female (обменявшись еще несколькими словами с женщиной), during which she assured him that I was now fully fit to travel (которыми она уверила его, что я уже вполне готов путешествовать; fit — готовый, здоровый), the jed ordered that we mount and ride after the main column (джед приказал нам садиться верхом и ехать следом за основной колонной).
