On the seventh day following the battle with the air craft we again took up the march toward Thark, all probability of another attack being deemed remote by Lorquas Ptomel.

During the days just preceding our departure (в течение тех дней, которые предшествовали нашему отъезду) I had seen but little of Dejah Thoris (я видел Дежу Торис очень мало), as I had been kept very busy by Tars Tarkas (так как Тарс Таркас заставил меня усиленно заниматься; to keep busy — заставить напряженно трудиться) with my lessons in the art of Martian warfare (уроками марсианского военного искусства), as well as in the training of my thoats (а также тренировкой моих тотов). The few times I had visited her quarters she had been absent (те несколько раз, когда я заходил в ее жилье, она отсутствовала), walking upon the streets with Sola, or investigating the buildings in the near vicinity of the plaza (прогуливаясь по улицам с Солой или изучая/рассматривая здания в непосредственной близости от площади; vicinity — соседство, близость; in the vicinity of — по-соседству; to investigate — расследовать; получать сведения; изучать, исследовать) I had warned them against venturing far from the plaza (я предупредил их, чтобы они не рисковали /отходить/ далеко от площади; to venture — рисковать, отважиться) for fear of the great white apes (из-за страха перед большими белыми обезьянами), whose ferocity I was only too well acquainted with (с чьей жестокостью я был слишком хорошо знаком). However, since Woola accompanied them on all their excursions (однако в связи с тем, что Вула сопровождал их во всех их экскурсиях), and as Sola was well armed (а Сола была хорошо вооружена), there was comparatively little cause for fear (было сравнительно мало оснований для опасений).
