Yellow-Dog Dingo is drawn black (Желтая-Собака Динго нарисована черным), because I am not allowed to paint these pictures with real colours out of the paint-box (потому что мне не разрешают раскрашивать эти картинки настоящими красками из коробки с красками); and besides, Yellow-Dog Dingo got dreadfully black and dusty after running through the Flinders and the Cinders (а кроме того Желтая-Собака Динго ужасно почернела и запылилась после пробежки через Флиндерс и лавовые шлаки).

That thing with the letters on it is Old Man Kangaroo’s pouch (та штуковина с буквами на ней — сумка Старины Кенгуру). He had to have a pouch just as he had to have legs (ему пришлось приобрести сумку точно также, как ему пришлось приобрести /такие/ ноги).
