The Dead Hand combat control system collects and analyzes information from missile attack warning systems: from satellites and over-the-horizon radars, telemetry from posts of the Russian missile forces. It also checks the condition of key elements of the missile forces of the Russian Federation and the General Staff, the intensity of negotiations on military frequencies, the content of radionuclides in the air, the occurrence of point sources of powerful radiation and electromagnetic radiation, and seismic sensor data.
According to some reports, the system is even able to track whether there are living people in key command posts.
In general, «Dead Hand» can, without human intervention, determine the fact of a nuclear attack and evaluate its success. If the key elements of the Russian missile forces were attacked, and their operators and commanders were destroyed, the computer makes a decision to launch a control missile.
Rising to a great height, the command missile system transmits a strike signal, which is received by all remaining missile silos and mobile complexes. The signal can also be received by strategic bombers and nuclear submarines.
In other words, all carriers of strategic nuclear weapons will receive a launch order. At the same time, a significant part of them will be able to execute the order without the participation of people, in automatic mode.
We pay special attention to the fully automatic complex of Russian «Poseidon». Its base unit is a super-fast, uninhabited nuclear submarine capable of performing a wide range of autonomous missions. Differs in record depth of immersion and low noise. In the case of the use of these weapons, their interception is technically impossible, and the consequences of the use will exceed all reasonable limits of losses…
